You are cordially invited to Outbox’s next event on Friday 24th August 2012 at 5pm featuring the UNICEF Team speaking on the RAPIDFTR project and Rebeccca Parsons, CTO Thoughtworks presenting on Continuous delivery - techniques for building and deploying ever changing and improving software.RapidFTR is a versatile open-source mobile phone application and data storage system that helps humanitarian workers collect, sort and share information about unaccompanied and separated children so they can be registered for care services and reunited with their families. RapidFTR is specifically designed to streamline and speed up Family Tracing and Reunification (FTR) efforts both in the immediate aftermath of a crisis and during ongoing recovery efforts.RapidFTR is an open source volunteer project under active development by the Child Protection in Emergencies Team at UNICEF. UNICEF Uganda is extending RapidFTR for use in Uganda to aid refugees from the DRC. Come hear more about his initiative and how you can be a part of this open source project Continuous delivery Creating a tight feedback loop between your users and the project team—including the customer or product owner—relies in turn on being able to continuously deliver new versions of your software to test changes and new ideas, and being able to measure the effect of these changes on your revenue. For many companies that are used to releasing new versions of software at most every few months, the idea of releasing changes several times a day seems impossible. ThoughtWorks, has used the principles and practices of Continuous Delivery to help organizations that released a few times a year move to releasing several times a month, or even more frequently. That represents a huge competitive advantage, and it means a large reduction in the amount of wasted time and effort in your IT organization.Rebecca Parsons, Chief Technology Officer at Thoughtworks will be speaking on the techniques for building and deploying ever changing Software. She has more than 20 years' application development experience, in industries ranging from telecommunications to emergent internet services. Rebecca has published in both language and artificial intelligence publications, served on numerous program committees, and reviews for several journals. She has extensive experience leading in the creation of large-scale distributed object applications and the integration of disparate systems. In 2010, Rebecca lived in Kampala and worked with UNICEF Uganda as a technical fellow with UNICEF's T4D group To register, http://outbox-thoughtworks.eventbrite.com/
