About the Refugee Education Challenge: IDEO.org and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) have partnered to launch a new innovation challenge focused on improving education amongst displaced populations.  As families flee their homes in hopes of safety, children and adults of all ages leave behind empty classrooms, and as displaced individuals settle into new surroundings, many find themselves in need of additional skills –from new trades to new languages – in order to make a living in an unfamiliar environment. We’re looking for solutions from across sectors to support displaced individuals get primary, secondary and tertiary education and have access to a livelihood.

The challenge is hosted on OpenIDEO.com, an open innovation platform that tackles design challenges for social and environmental impact with a community of 80,000+ people from 170+ countries. At the end of each challenge, we’ll be awarding up to $500,000 and the expertise of IDEO.org designers to bring a handful of the best ideas to life.
