Student/Research Projects for TechCon 2014: Call for Submissions

A call for submission of projects for consideration to participate in the TechCon2014 2014 Innovation Marketplace.

The Innovation Marketplace showcases Concepts, Research, and Innovations of HESN-affiliated students and post-doctoral researchers as well as those of young innovators in the international development community.

ResilientAfrica Network (RAN) is one of seven development labs under the Higher Education Solutions Network (HESN), USAID. RAN is pleased to announce a call to Innovators that wish to participate in TechCon 2014 to show case their greatest Innovations and compete with other HESN Labs.

Does your project, research or innovation address the world's development challenges like issues of climate change manifesting as drought, floods, landslides, disease outbreaks, sanitation, chronic conflict, urbanization, agriculture, food security, chronic diseases (HIV&AIDS)?

Is your project, research or innovation in one of the following categories:

  1. Innovation - your device, approach, or system is going to change the world!
  2. Research - wow, what you just figured out is incredibly interesting, important, and changes everything!
  3. Concept/Very Early Stage Idea - you have the next, greatest idea ever and have begun working on it!

Please kindly submit an abstract of not more than 300 words summarizing your project, research or innovation, the issue/problem being addressed and the methodology used to solve the problem to the e-mail address: sagaba@ranlab.org

Qualifying Projects shall then be contacted to pitch to the EasternAfrica Resilience Innovation Lab (EA RILab) in August 2014 and the winners stand a chance of participating in TechCon 2014 in California, USA in November 2014.

Please kindly include the team members and contacts in-case this is a group project. Individual projects, research or innovations shall also be considered. Faculty are also welcome to participate or nominate student projects or their own research/innovations for consideration. Prizes: Cash and in-kind prizes will be awarded to the top innovations in each of the 3 categories. This is an excellent opportunity to get exposure for your idea internationally, build support for your project and receive technical feedback 

Note: The call to participate in TechCon 2014 is in addition to the call for applications for the RIC4ACE challenge. These are two different calls and you can submit your projects in both. More information about the RIC4ACE challenge is at grants.ranlab.org.
